Hi, I’m Courtney Smith-Kilbury…
I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY25970) in California and I’ve been practicing psychotherapy for over 10 years.
I earned my PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA Medical Center in Substance Use and Co-occurring Disorders. I’ve also trained in other settings, including a women’s health clinic, community mental health clinic, college counseling center, and outpatient and residential substance use treatment programs.
I have specialized training in Motivational Interviewing/Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MI/MET), a collaborative, person-centered way of helping people find internal motivation to make healthy changes in their life.
I also have advanced training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) for Depression. IPT is an evidence-based, structured treatment for people who struggle with depression that is caused or maintained by significant life changes (for example, divorce or birth of a child), conflict with others, or unresolved grief. It is focused on helping people improve their mood and make positive changes in their relationships.
I opened my business in 2019 and transitioned to full-time private practice and my Walnut Creek office in 2020. On a personal note, I’m a parent of two very active boys. I also enjoy being outdoors and practicing yoga both with and without my family.
