Therapy
I offer individual psychotherapy services to adults residing in California. I provide therapy in-person at my Walnut Creek office or online via teletherapy. I am passionate about helping people make changes in their lives. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy for an evidence-based approach to therapy. In therapy you can explore what, if any, changes you want to make and learn skills to meet your goals. You may not feel ready to change. That’s ok. My work focuses on meeting you where you are with a non-judgmental and collaborative approach. I rely on research, clinical experience, and an understanding of you as an individual to guide our work together.
Areas of focus
I work with people to help with a variety of concerns, including:
Substance use problems
Gambling
Depression, including postpartum depression
Anxiety
Life changes
Parenting
Grief and perinatal loss
Stress management
Anger management
Relationship difficulties
Assertiveness and setting boundaries
Personal growth
Work/life balance
Help with changing your substance use
I specialize in helping people make changes to their substance use, whether that be moderation or abstinence. While it may not have started out this way, drinking and using can disconnect you from the people and things that matter most to you. Sometimes people find themselves doing things and thinking in a way that eventually becomes unhelpful. Additionally, you may feel depressed or anxious, and struggle in your relationships. Making a change is not easy. If you are considering making a change for the first time, or maybe you've tried many times before, therapy may be a next step. Depending on the substance you are struggling with, therapy plus medication may be the most effective combination.
Teletherapy
Life is busy and it can be hard to make time for yourself. Maybe you live outside the East Bay or traffic makes it difficult to get places. I offer online, video therapy appointments to help with this. Teletherapy is a convenient, effective, and secure way to receive therapy from your home, work, or other place of comfort and privacy (within the state of California). All you need is a device with a webcam and microphone (smartphone, tablet, computer), high speed internet, and a private place where you will not be interrupted during the session.
What to expect in therapy
Therapy is a process. The initial 1-2 sessions are about me getting to know you and you getting to know me. Together, we’ll make a plan about how to focus our time and help you meet your goals. Typically, we’ll meet weekly for 50 minutes for a period of time and then may reduce to every other week or monthly sessions depending on your needs. Therapy is not one-size fits all. I work with you to individualize your treatment, which includes understanding your strengths and the individual factors that make you YOU.
